I Want My Things! The Moon in Cancer

New Moons are a perfect time to plant seeds, make wishes, refresh offerings and work magic on calling in. New Moon energy is potent for working two weeks following the event, and intentions and visions from this time are likely to bear fruit six months later around the sign’s next Full Moon. (The Full Moon in Cancer is January 17th, 2022.)

In the sign of Cancer, the New Moon is going to highlight themes of self-mothering, the mother, roots, self-care, nurturing, security, protection, comfort and the home.

And someone with a natal Moon in Cancer is going to find (or find challenges with) security, protection, emotional nourishment and comfort in the home and with objects of the home. The sign of Cancer likes it’s things, and it can be a traumatizing experience to be separated from the sense of security and protection those things bring. Remember, Cancer vibes are deeply sensitive and they like to guard their soft and vulnerable insides with the solid shell of home –– or wardrobe. Since we are talking about style!

It’s no wonder then, that in several 1:1 Divine Style sessions last week, before and on the New Moon in Cancer, questions and conversations around the emotional attachment to one’s things, and the emotional security those things bring/brought, kept coming up!

Sensitive convos like…

•What do I do with this significant piece of jewelry my ex of 15 years ago gave to me? I’ve been holding onto it forever because #memories.

•How do I know when it is time to say “F' it!” and just get rid of these things? Someone special gave this stuff to me and even though I don’t like it…I don’t want to hurt the gift-giver’s feelings.

•I haven’t worn this clothing in years! But I’m scared to sell it because I don’t know if I will ever be able to replace it.

•I’m ready for a new life chapter….but…I’m having a hard time releasing the stuff (aka unrealized dreams, what once was) from my wardrobe of the old life chapter.

So many reasons to hold onto stuff that no longer serve the higher and greatest good!

Material things can become the support system for Cancer’s emotional well-being when the heart, spirit, dreams and imagination are not being nourished in other ways. Material things can become a form of defense when there is a potential for loss (experiencing hurt). Furthermore, the energy of Capricorn, on the opposite end of the Cancer-Cap axis, and representing the inner shadow of Cancer if not developed, influences Cancer to hold onto these things because they provide the feeling of security (and status). (Capricorn gets high on control and owning things can create the sense of control Cap seeks.)

But in order for Cancer to find a cozier, new home in the sand, the crab is going to have to release it’s grip from the rocky shore and ride the tide of the New Moon.

Thankfully, Mercury is right nearby and self-talk will be loving, encouraging, gentle. You can do this Cancer!
